It depends on how many items you have. Each appliance typically takes 3-5 minutes to test fully (visual inspection plus electrical testing). For 20 items, expect about an hour. For a larger job like 100+ appliances, I'll give you a time estimate when you book. I always work at a pace where nothing gets rushed.
I'll tell you exactly what the issue is and what your options are. If it's something simple like a broken fuse, I can replace it on the spot for £1. If it's a more serious electrical fault, I'll advise you not to use it and explain why. I'm not there to scare you, I'm there to keep you safe. You'll have a full report at the end.
Yes, I do. Extension leads and multi-socket adapters take a bit longer to test properly because they have multiple outlets. I charge £2 each for those, which covers the extra time and care needed. Happy to test them as part of your job.
I can test microwaves, yes. A microwave gets the standard PAT test (electrical safety), plus if you want it, I can do a radiation leakage test to make sure it's not leaking microwaves. That's an extra £5 per microwave, and it gives you peace of mind that it's genuinely safe.
It's £75 call-out charge, then a per-item rate that drops the more you have tested. First 24 items are £1.40 each, 25-49 are £1.30 each, and so on. If you need fuse replacements, microwave tests, or extension leads, those are extras. I'm based in Torquay and cover Torbay (Torquay, Paignton, Brixham) as my core area, plus Newton Abbot, Totnes, Dartmouth, and Teignmouth, all with no extra travel charges. Yes. You get a digital test log with all your appliances listed, whether each one passed or failed, and a certificate you can keep for your records or show to a landlord, insurance company, or anyone else who needs proof.
